Tariq aimed Medusa’s head to Sur (source: Trailer ‘Photocopier’)

Right after i watched the newly released film ‘Photocopier’, i began to feed my curiosity with the film’s easter eggs.

We all know the party scene — where all the conflicts began — where Tariq aimed Medusa’s head to Sur. Who would have thought that Medusa isn’t just a common female villain used in many medias. My curiosity has led me to the devastating past of Medusa.

In Greek myth, Medusa was once a beautiful maiden of Parthenon (Athena The Goddess’s temple). She was admired by many men, both mortal and god.

One day, Poseidon (God Of Ocean) learned about Medusa’s charm and was so enamored of her. Unable to get Medusa’s attention, he raped her in the sanctuary of the temple. Athena was extremely mad of what had happened at her sacred temple.

Athena cursed Medusa into a horrible snake-haired monster that one glance would turn anyone who saw her to stone. While Poseidon, one of the strongest God didn’t obtain any punishment nor curse. The ‘Power Relation’ has turned sexual harassment victim into a perpetrator.

To date, most of us only know Medusa as female villain which most medias (films, novels, video games) also demonstrate her just like that without exposing her dark past. On the other hand, Medusa can also be the symbol of male’s lust and ‘Power Relation’ victim.

The scene of Sur aimed by Medusa was created as if it was a cue that she will be a victim of sexual harassment — which actually was conducted by her affluent-college-boy-friend.

Moreover, the ‘Power Relation’ practiced by the college’s management and the perpetrator against her charge made Sur as if she was an insane girl who made up stories.

Such ironic.
